Please download this one, it's a big image.

Let me start by saying that I don't like Digimon Savers. The only character I really like in it is Ikuto, and that's despite his ridiculous background. I really couldn't get into a series with so many unlikable characters and horrible character development. What I liked about the previous seasons of Digimon is that the children came from perfectly normal and realistic backgrounds (even Kouji and Kouichi's situation is incredibly realistic in Japan), and Savers' characters were anything but normal.

So why am I drawing Savers fanart? Because I wanted to experiment and see how the characters would've been like if Savers was more... Digimon-ish. You know, with kids rather than teens and a goggleboy and relatively normal backgrounds. So I added Chika to the roster (you can't have a Digimon anime without sibling Tamers), and de-aged everyone by three years; Masaru and Thoma are 11, Yoshino is 15, and Ikuto and Chika are 7.

Masaru's hair is shorter than it is when he's 14 on purpose. I don't think that stupid half ponytail would fly in an elementary school setting. He also has goggles, because you gotta have a goggleboy. Ikuto's hairstyle change isn't as drastic, he just loses the side braid in favor of the normal hairstyle he has at the age of 15. I combined Masaru, Thoma and Yoshino's spring clothes with their summer clothes for these designs. With Chika, I combined her regular outfit with the dress she wore on her birthday and now she kind of looks like a piece of candy, but she's 7 and that's allowed. Ikuto isn't a jungle boy anymore so I played around with his canon outfit to create something more "normal", and added the stripy design from the T-shirt he got when he was brought to the Real World in canon. Still, part of Ikuto's appeal is his "wild child" persona, so I gave him a huge band-aid to create that effect.

11-year-old Masaru would probably still be a little punk, but I don't think he'd be a freakin' banchou. He WISHES he was as cool as Urameshi Yusuke, man. He'd just be a smalltime bully who needs to learn that people aren't punching bags.
I imagine Thoma wouldn't be quite as Gary Stu-like in a regular Digimon setting. Oh, he could still be a genius boy and skip a grade or two, Ken would've totally done so if he wasn't Japanese. But graduating from university at 12, being a certified doctor at 14 and getting a Nobel Prize at 19? That's just ridiculous. He'd also be far more emotionally damaged by his horrible family situation, he's definitely not going to be mature enough to figure it all out on his own. Hell, he wasn't really at 14.
Yoshino wouldn't be that useless and personality-less. It wouldn't take her a single episode to get over her insecurities like it did in canon. Especially not if she's going to be 15, that is THE age for insecurities.
Ikuto wouldn't be a jungle boy anymore, like I said. In a regular Digimon anime, he wouldn't have grown up in the Digital World. The whole part where he gets sucked into it would be a wonderful catalyst, of course, like it was in Savers, but rescuing Ikuto and leaving Suguru behind would make for awesome drama. But he can still be a rambunctious little guy who's adorably awkward around girls. That would do.
And Chika would be the same. Chika's cool. And I can't decide if her Digivice iC would be red/white or yellow/white.

So. Yeah. That's my vision. I would've been far more sympathetic towards Savers if it was more like that. I mean, the overall plot was really good, I was just so annoyed with the characters that it ruined it for me.

Anything else... oh, of course, I need to give credit to an awesome person! I used :icondigistardbz:'s Digisoul brushes, found here: [link] Very helpful stuff.

I have to say, Ikuto looks adorable the way you portrayed him. The band-aid is a nice touch. Overall this is an appropriate take on what Savers pry should have been. I personally liked it despite it's flaws, but I digress.

Coincidently, your take on Masaru bares a resemblence to a character that appeared in one of my Digimon Zone stories. [link] This page in particular if you're curious.

My comment didn't post, apparently. The drawing is cute. I like what you did with Ikuto and Chika. They match. lol Now you gotta draw the baddies and make them look terrible. Especially Kouki! j/k

And looking at Ikuto reminds me of someone else. Did you ever watch Beyblade? There is a character on there named Daichi, and I THINK he had a bandaid on his face somewhere. I might be thinking of someone else though... Anyway, get it? Daichi? Daisuke and Taichi! lol Nice job, LP. Hope ta see more Digimon stuff from you more though. lol Mum and his girlfriend are great and all, but seeing the others is nice too. =3~

I was never quite able to figure out why I didn't like Savers... other than the horrible dub, of course.
But now I think you're right. It just wasn't Digimon anymore.
Back to the topic, however.
I like your art, and the idea. Maybe you could expand on this AU, like you did on 02? Just a suggestion.
Anyway, +fave and if deviantart allowed rating, I'd give you the best in whatever system they'd be using.

YES they are kids. YES he has goggles. YES the little sister that needs protecting by big brother with goggles is there...this is how they should have done it.
